Salah - The Five compulsory prayers : Qunoot Al-Witr (Witr Prayer)

Back

From Authentic sources In shaa Allah and Allah knows the best;   Salah - The Five compulsory prayers

Du’a’ al-Qunoot is recited in the last rak’ah of Witr prayer, after bowing, but if one recites it before bowing it doesn’t matter. But reciting it after bowing is better.

It is better not to recite qunoot in witr all the time, rather it should be done sometimes, because there is no evidence that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did it all the time. But he taught al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him) a du’aa’ to recite in qunoot al-witr, as will be quoted below.

The du’aa’ of qunoot was narrated by Abu Dawood (1425), al-Tirmidhi (464), and al-Nasaa’i (1746) from al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) taught me some words to say in qunoot al-witr:

اللهم اهدنا فيمن هديت وعافنا فيمن عافيت وتولنا فيمن توليت وبارك لنا فيما اعطيت وقنا واصرف عنا برحمتك يا مولانا شر ما قضيت فإنك تقضي بالحق ولا يقضى عليك وانه لا يذل من واليت ولا يعز من عاديت تباركت ربنا وتعاليت

Allahummahdini fiman hadait, wa a`fini fiman afait, wa tawallani fiman tawallait, wa barik lana fima atait, wa qinaa sharra ma qadait, fa Innaka taqdi bil-haqqi wa la yuqda Alaik, wa innahu la yadhillu man waalait, wa laa ya’izzo man aadayt tabarakta Rabbana wa ta`alait

O Allah, guide us along with those whom You have guided, pardon us along with those whom You have pardoned, be an ally to us along with those whom You are an ally to and bless for us that which You have bestowed. Protect us from the evil You have decreed for verily You decree and none can decree over You. For surely, he whom You show loyalty to is never humiliated and he whom You take as an enemy is never honored and mighty. O our Lord, Blessed and Exalted are You.

la manja minka illa ilayk : There is no place of safety from You except with You

The above phrase – Laa manja minka illa ilayka (There is no place of safety from You except with You) – was narrated by Ibn Mandah in al-Tawheed and classed as hasan by al-Albaani. : See Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, hadeeth no. 426, 429.

Then he should send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). See al-Sharh al-Mumti’ by Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (4/14-52).

Below are additional supplications (DUAA) that can be recited in shaa Allah

فَلَكَ الحَمدُ عَلى ما قَضَيْت Falakalhamdu ala ma qadayt To You is all praise for what you have decreed upon us وَلَكَ الشُّكرُ عَلى ما أَنْعَمتَ بِهِ عَلَينا وَأَوْلَيت Walakashukru ala ma anamta bihi Alayna wa-awlayt And to You is all thanks for what you have given us. نَستَغفِرُكَ يا رَبَّنا مِ ن جمَيعِ الذُّنوبِ والخَطايا ونَتوبُ اليك Nastaghfiruka ya rabbana min jamee’ al-dhunoobi walkhataya wa natoobo ilayk We ask for Your forgiveness because of all of our sins and we turn to You in repentance.

Oh Allah, grant us that fear of You which You may drive between us and our disobedience to You. Grant us that obedience to You with which You may lead us to Paradise. Give us that faith with which You will lighten the worldly hardships for us. Grant us the use of our ears, eyes, and other faculties as long as You keep us alive. And make these our survivors. Make our revenge target (only) those who oppress us. Help us to victory over the one who displays enmity to us. Do not let our misfortunes hit our religion. Do not make this world our greatest concern and the sum total of our knowledge. And do not impose over us – because of our sins - one who shows no mercy to us.

O Allah! You alone do we worship and pray exclusively to You and bow before You alone and we hasten eagerly towards You and we fear Your severe punishment and hope for Your Mercy as your severe punishment is surely to be meted out to the unbelievers.
