Introduction

The Conditions of Wudhu` are ten.

  1. Islam.
  2. Sanity.
  3. Age of discernment.
  4. Intention
  5. That the one performing it intends to fulfill it, not having the intention (to wash) for some other reason, until he has complete the processes of purification.
  6. That what caused one to have to make Wudhu` has stopped
  7. Before making Wudhu`, the performance of Istinja` (purify oneself from urine/stool/etc. using water) or Istijmar (purify oneself from urine/stool/etc. using stone or other permissible material - Ex. toilet paper..)
  8. Purity of water being used, and its being lawful.
  9. Removing anything (a stain, for example) that prevents the water from reaching one`s skin.
  10. That when one makes ablution, the time of prayer has arrived: This condition is particular to one who is affected with a sickness whereby he loses control of his bladder - for instance, causing him to urinate frequently.
