Allah says In the Holy Qur’an “Only those believe in Our Ayat, who, when they are reminded of them, fall down prostrate, and glorify the praises of their Lord, and they are not proud. Their sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend out of what We have bestowed on them.” –As-sajdha 32:15-16 In the above verses Allah the mighty and the majestic, describes the qualities of the believers, those believe in the verses/Ayaat. We should understand and evaluate our self these signs to reflect and improve ourselves to become closer to Him.

First: When they are reminded of them, fall down prostrate, means, they listen to them and obey them in word and deed.

There is no other argument whether is it making any sense, why it is like that… or similar thoughts, According to them if it is from Allah and Rasool SAW that’s it accept it and implement it. The proofs and signs will increase their faith. As it mentioned in the holy Quran – “Those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts and when His Ayat are recited unto them, they increase their faith; and they put their trust in their Lord.” Al-Anfal 8:2

Same time the disbelievers, when they hear the Words of Allah, they are not affected by them or moved to change their ways. They persist in their disbelief, wrongdoing, ignorance and misguidance.

Allah says in another place “When the Ayah of the Most Gracious were recited unto them, they fell down prostrate and weeping.” Maryam 18: 58

This means that when they heard the Words of Allah, mentioning His proofs and evidences, they prostrated to their Lord in humility, humbleness, praise and thanks for the great favors they were blessed with.

Second quality: They are not proud and they are arrogant.

From the characteristics of the believer is humbleness when submitting to the Truth, and humbleness when dealing with others as well. He is sincere to the servants of Allah no matter what their status or position. This sincerity is found in his statements, actions, and intentions.

They respect the truth and the reminders, humility in their actions and words – these are their behaviors. Hence they are far from these negative attitudes like arrogance, prejudice, unnecessary arguments, showing off, disrespect towards the truth and justice.

The Holy Quran tells the story of Luqman the wise, where he advices his son. One of the advice he said “And turn not your face away from men with pride” means, `do not turn your face away from people when you speak to them or they speak to you, looking down on them in an arrogant fashion. Rather be gentle towards them and greet them with a cheerful face. “And nor walk in insolence through the earth.” means, `do not be boastful, arrogant, proud and stubborn. Do not do that, because, Allah loves not the arrogant boasters.

However, the disbeliever has pride and looks down upon the Truth. He looks down upon other people, too. He is amazed at himself, his wealth, status and possessions... and does not make a practice of being sincere to anyone. And rejects the truth!

Allah warns those people who makes fun (or mock at) of His worshiping “Verily, those who scorn My worship, they will surely enter Hell in humiliation!” 40:60

Third: They pray the voluntary night prayer and forego sleep and resting

Allah tells the next quality as “Their sides forsake their beds” meaning, they pray the voluntary night prayer and forego sleep and resting on a comfortable bed. Mujahid and Al-Hasan said that the Ayah in Ad-dariyath “They used to sleep but little by night. And in the hours before dawn, they were asking for forgiveness" Ad-dariayth 17-18

There is two views on these verses, first is that, they used to spend a little part of every night awake. Ibn `Abbas said, "Every night, they would worship Allah, even during a little part of the night.'' Qatadah narrated that Mutarrif bin `Abdullah said, "Hardly a night would pass by them that they did not pray to Allah the Exalted and Most Honored, either in the beginning, or the middle of it.'' Mujahid said, "Only a few nights, if any, would they sleep through the night until the morning without praying Tahajjud.'' Qatadah said similarly. Anas bin Malik and Abu Al-`Aliyah said, "They used to pray between Al-Maghrib and Al-`Isha'.''

The Second Opinion, they used to spend a little part of the night in sleep. This was preferred by Ibn Jarir. Al-Hasan Al-Basri said: “They performed voluntary night prayer and would not sleep during the night except a little. They were active and would continue until they were seeking forgiveness right before dawn.''

Abdullah bin Salam said, "When the Messenger of Allah arrived at Al-Madinah, people quickly gathered around him and I was among them. When I saw his face, I knew that it was not the face of a liar. The first statement I heard from him was (O people! Feed with food, keep relations to kith and kin, spread the Salam, pray at night while people are asleep, and you will enter Paradise in peace.)''

«يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ، وَصِلُوا الْأَرْحَامَ، وَأَفْشُوا السَّلَامَ، وَصَلُّوا بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّاسُ نِيَامٌ، تَدْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ بِسَلَام»

Forth: They invoke their Lord in fear and hope

Allah says “to invoke their Lord in fear and hope,” means, in fear of His punishment and in hope of His reward.

In another place Allah SWT telling the prophet SAW to “Declare to My servants, that I am truly the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful. And that My torment is indeed the most painful torment.” Al-Hijr: 49, 50 meaning, `O Muhammad, tell My servants that I am the source of mercy and I am the source of punishment.' There other Ayat tells the similar to this have, which indicate that we must always be in a state between hope (for Allah's mercy) and fear (of His punishment).

Fifth: They spend out of what Allah the mighty the majestic bestowed on them

Allah says “and they spend out of what We have bestowed on them.” means, they do both obligatory and supererogatory acts of worship.

Imam Ahmad recorded that Mu`adh bin Jabal said, "I was with the Messenger of Allah on a journey one morning, walking near him. I said, `O Prophet of Allah, tell me of a deed that will grant me admittance to Paradise and keep me away from Hell.' He said:

(You have asked about something great, and it is easy for the one for whom Allah makes it easy. Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish regular prayer, pay Zakah, fast Ramadan and perform pilgrimage to the House.) Then he said: (Shall I not tell you of the gates of goodness Fasting is a shield, charity wipes out sin, and the prayer of a man in the depths of the night.)

Allah says “And in their wealth there was the right of the Sa'il and the Mahrum.” Ad-dariyath: 19 After Allah mentioning their quality of performing prayer, He then mentioned their quality of spending in charity and acts of compassion and kindness,

(And in their wealth there was the right), a designated part which they dedicated to the Sa'il and Mahrum. The Sa'il is the poor who begs others, and he has a due right. As for the Mahrum, Ibn `Abbas and Mujahid said, "He is the poor person who does not receive a stipend.'' Meaning he does not receive a stipend from the Muslim treasury, nor does he have a means of income, nor a profession. The Mother of the faithful, `A'ishah may Allah be pleased with her, said about the Mahrum, "He is the displaced, the one who does not have a profession to easily earn an income from.'' Qatadah and Az-Zuhri: "The Mahrum is the one who does not ask the people for anything.'' Az-Zuhri added that the Messenger of Allah said,

«لَيْسَ الْمِسْكِينُ بِالطَّوَّافِ الَّذِي تَرُدُّهُ اللُّقْمَةُ وَاللُّقْمَتَانِ وَالتَّمْرَةُ وَالتَّمْرَتَانِ، وَلكِنِ الْمِسْكِينُ الَّذِي لَا يَجِدُ غِنًى يُغْنِيهِ وَلَا يُفْطَنُ لَهُ فَيُتَصَدَّقَ عَلَيْه»

(The poor (Miskin) is not the one who goes round to the people and asks them for a mouthful or two or a date or two. But the poor is the one who does not have enough to satisfy his needs and whose condition is not known to others, so that others may give him something in charity.) This Hadith is recorded in the Two Sahihs using another chain of narration.

May Allah SWT give us the Taufiq to be among his pious servents. ameen
